Joyce H. Millar

Goshen – Joyce H. Millar of Greencroft Drive passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the age of 103.

She was born on February 19, 1922 in New York, New York to Thomas and Mary Oakley Hemenway.

She married Robert R. Millar on February 19, 1949 in Leonia, New Jersey. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1974.

Joyce graduated from Michigan State University in 1944. She worked at the Goshen Public Library for nineteen years where she served as Head of Circulation. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, The Philomathians, and the First Presbyterian Church. Joyce was a lifelong bridge player in many groups over the years. She also enjoyed playing games with family members young and old.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Barbara) Millar of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, and Robert “Randy” Millar of Kaleva, Michigan; as well as two daughters; Jane (Douglas) Pickard of Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Sally (Rolland) Strasser of Guilford, Connecticut. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Denise Millar of Cromwell; nine grandchildren, Duncan (Laurel) Pickard, Ann (Joshua) Eddinger, Thomas (Margaret) Millar, Laura Millar, Kathryn (Bryan) Searcy, Jennifer (Seth) Steward, Gregory (Haley) Millar, Mary Oakley Strasser (Balaji Pandian), and Charles Strasser; 12 great-grandchildren; Penelope and Maxwell Pickard, Graham, Lucy, Fiona, and Eleanor Eddinger, Caleb and Isabella Searcy, Reed and Jack Millar and Marlo and Elsie Steward; and her sister-in-law, Judith Millar Goodwyn of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ann Hemenway of New York City and Barbara Stuhring of Ellensburg, Washington.

A memorial service will take place in Ludlow, Vermont at a later date.
