Joyce Ellen Alwine D’Arcy, 86 of Goshen, Indiana, died peacefully Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 2:00 a.m., at Kerens Care Center in Kerens, Texas.
She was born June 24, 1939, in Albion, Indiana to Collen and Evelyn (Stump) Alwine.
On June 27, 1998, she married Dr. David Lee D’Arcy in South Bend, Indiana. He died on November 17, 2018.
Survivors include two daughters, Anita Lorainne Holden, Norcross, Georgia. Jane Elizabeth Taylor, Goshen, Indiana and Ronald (Tina) Lee Holden, Jr., Kerens Texas; two step adult children, Carmen D’Arcy (Bill) Stanczykiewicz, Zionsville, Indiana and Kevin (Sharlyn) D’Arcy, Goshen, Indiana; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Collen and Evelyn (Stump) Alwine; her two sisters, Jo Ann Brandt Yoder and Karen Zimmerman.
She was a graduate of Goshen High School in 1957. Joyce attended beauty school in 1970. After graduation she worked as a beautician at Shirley’s on 7th street in Goshen. From there she worked 15 years at Greencroft Nursing Center and Manor II. On occasion Yoder-Culp hired her to style the decedents hair.
Joyce came from a musical family. She and her mother Evelyn played piano and organ for 10 years at First Baptist Goshen. She led all the children and youth choirs there too. Joyce loved music around all family events and anywhere there was a piano.
Joyce attended Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. She graduated in 1992 with her associates degree as an occupational therapist assistant (OTA).
Joyce enjoyed her family and friends. She loved her two best buddies of 60 years Lois Wiggins and Martha Ferguson of Goshen and her Texas buddies Jhan Hewitt, Genell Willingham, JoAnne Colburn and her two sisters Jo Ann and Karen. The stories and jokes were always a part of their visits and their laughs were unforgettable. She loved her church family.
A memorial service will be held at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Carmen D’Arcy Stanczykiewicz will officiate the service with words and songs of encouragement.
