Joseph Wilmer "Bill" Yoder, 90, of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, April 29, 2014, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend after suffering a stroke on Friday. He was born July 18, 1923 in Elkhart County to Joseph and Dorothy (Dovel) Yoder. In 1946 he married Betty Montel. On July 21, 1990 he married Beverly (Rowdabaugh) Fisher in Goshen. She survives along with his first wife, Betty Yoder, Goshen; five children, Laura (Robert) Holloway, Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Margaret (Bud) Barnell, Seneca Falls, New York, Mary (Jeff) Douglas, Tallahassee, Florida, Jim (Lois) Yoder, Middlebury and Ed (Teresa) Yoder, Goshen; four step-children, Linda (Joe) Hagar, Chillicothe, Illinois, and Virginia (Dorn) Nichols and Cynthia (Garry) Hattery, both of Goshen and William (Sharon) Fisher, Colleyville, Texas; nine grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and 28 step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five siblings, June Burkholder, Goshen, John C. (Betty) Yoder, Elkhart, Phil Yoder, Union, Michigan, Tom (Karen) Yoder, Albion, and Darlene (Dale) Skinner, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Delight Yoder; two sisters, Kathryn Warstler and Marjorie Stokoe; and a step-son, Fred Fisher. A longtime farmer, Mr. Yoder also worked at Western Rubber for 20 years. He attended Silver Street Mennonite Church, now Silverwood Mennonite Church, before joining Rock Run Church of the Brethren in 1990. He enjoyed woodworking projects that benefitted other people. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be conducted at Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen. Pallbearers will be Donn, Kirk and Dan Yoder, Josh and Jeremy Barnell and Ben Douglas. A 1 p.m. Saturday memorial service will be held at Rock Run Church of the Brethren with Pastor Tim Waits officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Goshen Sunrisers' Kiwanis Club for their Riley Hospital Project or Habitat for Humanity or Rock Run Church of the Brethren.
