Joseph Woodrow Ramseyer, 87, of Goshen died Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Maples at Waterford Crossing.
He was born October 9, 1930 to William and Gladys (Salzman) Ramseyer, in Baden, Ontario, Canada.
After leaving school, Woody worked at Hollman Piano Co. in Kitchener, Ontario, while attending classes at a machinist’s school.
In 1953 he volunteered for a three year service term with Mennonite Central Committee, and was sent to South Korea following the war.
His work there was primarily at the MCC Vocational School for orphaned boys, near Tague, Korea. He also was involved in MCC food and clothing distributions and helping to set up food and milk kitchens at other orphanages, schools, churches and refugee camps in the area.
It was in Tague he met Lois a nurse from Colorado, also serving a three year term with MCC. They were married Sept 21,1956 in Tokyo, Japan. After returning to the US, Woody and Lois lived in Ontario for 6 months before moving to Goshen.
They were members of the College Mennonite Church.
Woody was a toolroom machinist at Goshen Rubber for 39 years. He retired at age 71 but continued to do small jobs from his home-based machine shop.
He leaves three children, Sharon (Jon) Sivanich of Mesa, Arizona, Beth (Tim) Robie of Goshen and Rob Ramseyer of Albuquerque, New Mexico, five grandchildren, Ian (Norma) Robie of Houston, Texas, Emily (Glen) Judd of Sauk City, Wisconsin, and Sawyer, Piper, and Scout Sivanich of Mesa, Arizona; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, a sister and a great grandson.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 20, 2018 one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service at the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor Pamela Yoder, College Mennonite Church, will officiate.
A private burial will take place at the Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or the College Mennonite Church.
