Joseph J. Peters, 86, of Goshen and Naples, died Monday, March 28, 2016, with his family present, at Naples Community Hospital, Naples, Florida. He had been battling multiple health issues.
He was born Sept.ember 14, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to Ernst August and Loretta (Coffey) Peters.
On July 15, 1961 he married V. Carole Wilson in Henderson, Kentucky.
She survives along with three children, Michael (Stacy) Peters of Elkhart, David (Nancy) Peters of Goshen and Kristen Peters of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Eric and Alison Peters; and brother, Tom (Jaynee) Peters of Branson, Missouri and his chubby dog, Chico.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Peters.
A 1955 graduate of St. Louis University, Mr. Peters served as a 1st Sergeant with the Army in the Korean War.
He enjoyed a long career in the oil industry as an executive with Mobil Oil Corp. After which, he moved his family to Goshen from Philadelphia in 1980 and opened one of the first convenience stores in Goshen. He was a great entrepreneur and over the next 20 years he opened 27 red D mart convenience stores.
He was active in the Goshen Chamber of Commerce and in the Indiana Oil Marketers where he served as president.
Joe was a member of Maplecrest and Elcona Country Clubs and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and respected boss.
A memorial mass will be conducted Saturday, April 16, 2016, starting at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Goshen. Rev. Father John Delaney will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Elkhart County,
