Joseph "Joe" O. Rodes, 78, of Goshen, died Friday afternoon, July 2, 2010, at Greencroft Healthcare. He had been ill with cancer for several months. He was born in Mt. Crawford, Virginia, to the late David M. and Naomi (Koogler) Rodes. He married June Eby on April 5, 1956 in Haywood, Wisconsin. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Emma (Isaac) Showalter of Fort Worth, Texas, Enos (Connie) Rodes of Syracuse, Ida (Leon) Heatwole of Port Republic, Virginia, Roy (Julia) Rodes of New Paris, Titus (Waneta) Rodes of Milford, June (Mike) Geiser of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Owen (Julia) Rodes of Goshen, Sue (Glen) Zimmerman of Wakarusa, Marie (Rydell) Bontrager of Middlebury, and Luke (Cinde) Rodes of Broadway, Virginia; 42 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Catherine Rodes, Roda Benett, Ruby Rodes, all of Mt. Crawford, Virginia; Martha Burkholder of Bridgewater, Virginia, and Iva Beachy of Mt. Clinton, Virginia; and five brothers, John and Daniel Rodes, both of Mt. Crawford, Virginia, Noah Rodes of Port Republic, Virginia, Aaron Rodes of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Adin Rodes of Bridgewater, Virginia. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Lee Rodes in 1974 and four sisters, Pricilla, Ruth, Anna, and Esther. A resident of the area since 1969, Mr. Rodes was self employed as a carpenter. He was owner and operator of Anna's Bakery from 1971 to 1981. A member of Pleasant Grove Conservative Mennonite Church, he volunteered at Greencroft Healthcare the last four years. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 4, at Pleasant Grove Conservative Mennonite Church, 13483 CR 38, Goshen and from 8 to 8:45 a.m., Monday, July 5 at Yellow Creek Wisler Frame Mennonite Church on the southwest corner of CR 11 and CR 38, Goshen. A 9:00 a.m., graveside service will be held in Yellow Creek Frame Cemetery, Goshen, with an 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2010, memorial service, at Pleasant Grove Conservative Mennonite Church. Rev. Randall Riegsecker, Rev. James Ramer and Rev. Kenneth Martin will officiate. Memorials may be given to Pleasant Grove Conservative Mennonite Church.
