Joseph H. Boyd Flowers? Joseph H. Boyd, 66, of Sturgis, Michigan, died Saturday evening, January 28, 2006, at Elkhart General Hospital where he had been a patient since January 24. He was born June 7, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Lillian (Jensen) Boyd. On May 31, 1969, in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, he married Margaret “Margie” Matheson. She survives. He had worked for 16 years before retiring from Miles/Bayer, Elkhart as a supervisor of production of diabetic reagent strips and other blood supply testing products. He had also worked at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in cardiac research on prototype heart-lung machines and for Merck & Company in Pennsylvania as supervisor in antibiotics and toxicology research. Mr. Boyd served as a medic while in the Army Reserve at naval Hospital in Philadelphia. A 1962 graduate of Geneva College, Beaver Creek, Pennsylvania, he was a member of the Backwater Retriever Club where had had served as treasurer for 11 years. He was also very involved in the AKC Field Trials for water sporting dogs, mainly black Labradors and in January 2006 he received an award for Outstanding Service to the club. Mr. Boyd was well known for his exacting waterfowl woodcarvings. He was an avid canoeist, waterfowl hunter and outdoorsman and gardener. He is survived by his wife, Margie; two daughters, Kim Boyd and Debbie Boyd, both of Chicago, Illinois; and a brother, Robert (Joan) Boyd of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 1 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 2, 2006, service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Kallenberg, St. John’s Episcopal Church, Elkhart, will officiate. Burial will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions may be made to donor’s choice.
