Joseph E. Borkholder, 78 of Goshen, died Saturday morning, November 17, 2012, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He was born December 8, 1933 in Nappanee to Eli and Catherine (Coblenz) Borkholder. On May 2, 1957, he married Lizzie Ann Hostetler in Middlebury. She died January 17, 1997. He then married Betty Garvey June 29, 2002. Surviving are two daughter, Bertha (Al) Reinoehl of Union, Michigan and Joanna (Brian) Mast of Goshen; two sons, Vernon (Sherri) Borkholder of Goshen and Richard (Nancy) Borkholder of New Paris; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ada Borkholder of Nappanee and Amanda (Mervin) Lapp of Quaker City, Ohio; and two brothers, Raymond ( Wilma) Borkholder of Nappanee and John (Marilyn) Borkholder of Middlefield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Anna Ropp, Sarah Borkholder, Emma Miller and Clara Hochstedler; and three brothers, Menno, Daniel and Jacob Borkholder. A cabinet maker and general handyman, he was a member at Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa. A sports enthusiast who liked watching sporting events on TV and an avid gardener, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 23 and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012, funeral service, all at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. David Harper, Bible Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association.
