Jonas B. King

Jonas Beiler King, 82, of Goshen, died Friday, September 4, 2020, at Goshen Hospital from the Covid-19 virus.

Jonas was born November 1, 1937, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Samuel F. and Mary Anna (Beiler) King.

On June 30, 1963, he married Esther Schrock. She survives, along with their son and daughter-in-law, Marshall King and Bethany Swope. Other survivors include siblings Lydia King of Ronks, Pennsylvania; David (Mary) King of Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania; Sam (Carol) King of Middlebury; Levi (Mary Ann) King of Ronks; Ben King of Ronks; Sarah Varley of Ronks; and a number of beloved in-laws on the Schrock side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Christy and Sarah King, sister Elizabeth King and brother-in-law Mike Varley.

Jonas was born Old Order Amish and went into 1-W service in Harrison, Arkansas. After his marriage to Esther, they lived in El Dorado, Arkansas and moved back to Elkhart County in 1976. He worked in the recreational vehicle and mobile home industry as a welder at Rockwood, Schult Homes and Supreme Corp. On the side, he was a small-scale farmer and craftsman of utility trailers. In his later years, he delivered vehicles nationally and drove school buses for Goshen Community Schools for 10 years, retiring in November 2019.

He was a member of Milford Chapel, a Mennonite church in Milford, Indiana, and had been part of Gideons International for more than 50 years. He was a volunteer for Gospel Echoes Team Prison Ministry. Jonas loved his family and the God who created him. He was known for his infectious smile, large hands and huge heart.

A private family burial will take place in Miller Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Gospel Echoes Team Prison Ministry, P.O. Box 555, Goshen, IN 46527, or Gideons International.
