Johnnie David Manley

Johnnie David Manley, 66, of Goshen, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, May 7, 2006, while visiting with family in Greeley, Colorado.   He was born December 15, 1939, in Howe, Indiana, to Cyrus T. and Mildred (Snow) Manley.  He married Janet Firestone in 1962.  She died January 10, 1984.  On November 30, 1985 he married Elizabeth Brown, who died August 14, 1997.  He married Marilyn Reschly Schweitzer on August 7, 1977 in Elkhart.  She survives.   A 1957 Shipshewana High School graduate, Mr. Manley worked as a truck driver for Archbold Ladder of Elkhart for 30 years and also for Patrick Plywood, Elkhart.   Mr. Manley served in the US Marine Corps from 1957 to 1961 in Korea and Alaska.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #308 of Osceola.   He was a member of the Solomon Creek United Methodist Church and the Fairfield Men’s Club.   He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; a son, Jerry (Misty) Hawn of Goshen; three stepsons, Ken (Joanne) Schweitzer of Coralville, Iowa, Allen (Angie) Brown and Dewey (Carla) Brown, both of Elkhart; five stepdaughters, Karen (Tom Vujovich) Schweitzer of Des Moines, Iowa, Terri (Ken) Miller of Elkhart, Christine Knowles of Vero Beach, Florida, Dawn (Jeff) Jacobs of Ligonier and Connie Brown of Goshen; two grandchildren and 13 step-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy and Elizabeth; and a brother, Harry Manley.   He was preceded in death by his previous wives, an infant son, Johnnie D. Manley, Jr., stepfather, David Calvin; two brothers, Donald and Lynn Manley; a sister, Irma Sprinkle; and two step-grandsons.   Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 13, at the funeral home.   A 10:00 a.m. funeral will be conducted at the Solomon Creek United Methodist Church, Syracuse, on Monday, May 15, 2006.  Rev. Carldean Merrifield will officiate.   Burial will be in the Solomon Creek Cemetery, Syracuse, with Military Honors.   Memorials may be designated to the Solomon Creek United Methodist Church.
