John VanderWerf, 89, of Goshen, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2022, at home.
He was born September 16, 1932, in Joure, Netherlands to Johannes and Iebeltje (Bouwman) VanderWerf.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; six children, John Nathan (Cindy) VanderWerf, Eileen VanderMolen and James (Tammy) VanderWerf, all of Elkhart, and Myron (Wanda) VanderWerf, Sandy Barber and Sarah (Salvadore LeBold) VanderWerf, all of Goshen; three stepchildren, Cindy (John Nathan) VanderWerf of Elkhart, Courtney (Christena) Stump of Goshen and Curtis Stump of South Bend; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five siblings, Izzy (Don) Miller of Elkhart; Hennie (Mark) Janzen, Margriet (Robert) Troyer and Chris (Terry) Graber, all of Kansas and Julie (John) Gingerich of Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Martha (Dam) VanderWerf; his first wife, Elsa (Riwe) VanderWerf; a son-in-law, James C. Barber and a stepson, A. Chris Stump.
A carpenter and contractor, Mr. VanderWerf was a member of Greene Road Church, Goshen. He enjoyed friends and family, gardening, bird watching and playing cards.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 1 to 4 p.m. and Monday, August 1, from 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Scott Tilley will officiate.
Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
