John “Jack” R. Guipe, 75, of Goshen died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born July 5, 1943 in Goshen to Erma Fidler Guipe and Henry F. Guipe, as the second of five sons. He graduated from Goshen High School in 1961 and was married soon after graduation to Susan Hostetler Guipe.
Jack took a job as a timekeeper and computer programmer at Penn Controls in Goshen, then went on to work for three decades as a programmer and systems analyst for the Univac/Unisys Corporation in South Bend and Indianapolis. He moved on to Elkhart Products in Elkhart as an IT manager, and finally to Contempo Colors in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he was the Vice President of IT until retiring at age 62.
For 56 years, Jack was a member of Maplecrest Country Club, his home away from home, and in retirement he played golf every day the course was available. He shared his love of golf with his son, John, and more recently, his grandson Jackson. The two played many, many rounds together, and Jack was a faithful fan at Jackson’s middle school golf matches and summer tournaments.
Jack was the proud grandfather of four: Emma, Noah, Daniel and Jackson. He was supportive of all of the grandkids and enjoyed attending their activities and performances.
Preceding Jack in death are his parents, Hank and Erma, and his younger brother Jim. Surviving him are Jack’s wife of 57 years, Susan, his son John, his daughter Beth, his brothers Dave, Rick and Tom, and his four grandchildren.
Jack was known for the love and compassion he had for dogs. He was often seen taking his pets for walks or driving them around town in his Corvette.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at Maplecrest Country Club, 611 Hackett Rd., Goshen, in the Bunker Room.
In lieu of sending flowers, please send a donation to the Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 County Road 19, Bristol, IN 46507.
