John Nathan Petgen, 78, entered Heaven Thursday, February 7, 2019, at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born November 28, 1940 in Goshen to Maurice A. and Kathryn V. (Leek) Petgen.
On October 13, 1962 he married Sharon E. Weaver in Goshen. She preceded him to Heaven on February 25, 2016.
Survivors include two daughters, Michele (Todd) Condon of Jonestown, Pennsylvania and Carmen (Brad) Sheaffer of New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania; a son, Ryan (Teresa) Petgen of Atwood; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary (Paul) Stringham of Georgetown, Kentucky, Sarah Roeder of Goshen and Lydia Allman of LaGrange; and two brothers, David (Joan) Petgen of Elkhart and Paul (Sue) Petgen of Osceola.
He was preceded in death by both parents.
John’s love of the Bible led him to graduate from Appalachian Bible College, Beckley, West Virginia, and subsequently pastor for 25 years at churches in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Illinois. He enjoyed helping others as a Certified Biblical Counselor. He also worked brief stints in the RV Industry, as well as working as a purchasing agent and mechanic.
A member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, Mr. Petgen enjoyed fishing, hunting, gunsmithing and singing, including joining with the Master’s Quartet and The Followers.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 12, 2019, from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1011 South Indiana Ave., Goshen, prior to the 7 p.m. funeral service. Rev. Jim Shrock will officiate.
A private burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
