John “Ned” McDonald, 85, of Nappanee, died early Friday morning, January 25, 2008, at the home of his daughter. He was born in Elkhart on January 7, 1923, to the late Robert and Reta (Bickel) McDonald. He married Joy M. Larimer on May 25, 1947, in Goshen. She survives. A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. McDonald was a member of the First Baptist Church Goshen. Mr. McDonald was a farmer and also worked for Excel Corporation in Elkhart, Keenes in Middlebury, and as a self employed woodworker at McDonald Country Crafts at Shipshewana Flea Market since 1982. He was manager for his wife, Joy, who was a Nashville recording artist. He was a member of the Country Music Association. A lifetime member of the American Legion, he was a World War II veteran serving with the Army Air Corp. He is survived by his wife, Joy; three daughters, Cindy (Chick) Garver of Elkhart, Susan Scrogham of Nappanee, and Mary Jo McDonald of Mount Prospect, Illinois; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Robert McDonald; a grandson, Beau Lahrman; a great-grandson, Matthew Scrogham; and a brother Dean L. McDonald. Friends may call 12 to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 27, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. An 11:30 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008, funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home. Rev. Louis showers and Rev. Gregg Lanzen of the First Baptist Church, Goshen will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
