John A. Hochstedler

Goshen – John A. Hochstedler, 90, died Thursday, July 23, 2026 at Goshen Hospital.

He was born August 31, 1935 in Hartville, Ohio to Emanuel and Magdalena (Schlabach) Hochstedler.

John spent his early years in Kokomo and attended Bethel College in Mishawaka.

On June 23, 1956 he married Shirleen Joy Oswald at Benton Mennonite Church. She survives along with a son, Jeryl (Patricia) Hochstedler, and a daughter, Gwenolyn (Rodney) Diller, both of Goshen; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hochstedler; six grandchildren, Brad (Laura) Hochstedler, Cherry (Shawn) Miller, Adam (Jennifer) Hochstedler, Danae (Justin) Bell, John (Sara) Diller, and Matthew Diller; and 12 great-grandchildren,

Other survivors include his siblings, Grace Graber, Elkhart, Lewis (Marilyn) Hochstedler, Nappanee, Verl (Shirley) Hochstedler, Kokomo, and Wayne (Kathy) Hochstedler, Harrisonburg, Virginia, sisters-in-law, Judy Hochstedler and Ruby Hochstedler and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Hochstedler, sisters, Leona Yoder, Alta Stalter and Elsie Hochstetler, and brothers, Leon and Glen Hochstedler.

John’s life vocations included farming, construction, owning and operating along with his wife and partners, Hochstedler Home Improvement Co.Inc., Real Estate Sales and investments, appraisals of real estate for local banks and individuals.

In retirement he enjoyed going on mission trips, many volunteer opportunities using his carpentry skills to help where needed, working in his shop with stained glass, making many gifts for family and friends as well as Church and chapel windows in the United States and Dominican Republic, and windows and lamps for their own family and for many others.

He also enjoyed playing golf, reading and traveling as well as spending time with friends and playing games.

He and Shirleen spent many winters in their home in Sarasota, Florida and appreciate the many friends they made while there.

John loved his family very much, he loved his Lord above all else and tried to represent Him well in all that he did on his journey of life whether through his church, business friends or family relationships. He is a member of Jefferson Community Church, most recently attending Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church.
