John S. Hartzler

July 22, 1928 — February 25, 2016

John S. Hartzler, 87, of Syracuse died Thursday morning, February 25, 2016 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

He was born July 22, 1928 in Flint, Michigan to John S. and Martha Fern (Morningstar) Hartzler.


On December 30, 1954 he married Dolores M. Kammerdiener in Syracuse.


She survives along with a daughter, Linda (Roger) Bertram of Cromwell; two sons, Daniel J. (Melanie) Hartzler of New Paris and David Lee Hartzler of Millersburg; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Erwin) Engert of Lakewood, Colorado and Phyllis Haarer of Coldwater, Michigan; and a brother, Stanley (JoAnn) Hartzler of Bethany, Missouri.


John served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W. and past member of the Moose.


He worked as a farmer and a machinist at Western Rubber for 48 years.


Visitation will be Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m. Monday, February 29, 2016 funeral service will take place. Rev. Carldean Merrifield of Solomon Creek Church will officiate.


Burial will follow at Solomon Creek Cemetery.
