John S. Hall, Sr., 85, of Goshen, passed away at his home Saturday morning, June 23, 2012. He had been ill since April 20. He was born August 19, 1926 in Kenmore, Ohio, to the late Samuel and Ruth (Smith) Hall. He married Phyllis Bailey July 5, 1953. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, John S. Hall, Jr. of Goshen, James P. Hall of Los Angeles, California, and Jeffrey (Linda) Hall, ofElkhart; two grandsons, Brian Hall of Elkhart and Jason (Randi) Hall of Goshen; and two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Landon Hall, both of Goshen. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Hamman, Virginia Bloom and Jeanne Agenbroad. A Goshen resident since 1957 when he opened Maley's Variety Store and where he worked until 1970. In 1970 he bought Maple City Hardware and in 1981 changed the name to John Hall's True Value Hardware. A 1944 graduate of Belle Center High School, Belle Center, Ohio, Mr. Hall attended Bowling Green State University for two years before serving with the US Army during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Goshen; The Goshen Chamber of Commerce and the Goshen VFW, DAV and American Legion. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 25, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012, funeral service will be conducted. Pastors Ed and Brenda Fritz will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
