John Joseph Gummer, 83, of Dayton, Ohio, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Harborside Healthcare, Dayton, where he had been a resident since 2003. He was born in Indiana on November 2, 1925 to John and Virginia (Cantwell) Gummer. Mr. Gummer attended the University of Southern California for one month before enlisting in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged, he attended Butler University for three years. He worked as a buyer for Anchor Hoching Glass Company in Xenia, Ohio, and was a former president of the Jaycees. Mr. Gummer is survived by a daughter, Susan Diane Brown of Dayton; two sons, John Jeffery Gummer and Michael Gummer, both of Dayton; and a sister, Marilyn (Ken) Spraetz of Leawood, Kansas. A graveside service at Oakridge Cemetery will be held at a later date. Burial of cremains will be at Oakridge Cemetery.
