John E. Funk, 86, of Goshen, passed away Saturday evening, November 24, 2012, at RiverCrest Specialty Hospital, Mishawaka. He was born August 5, 1926 in Athens to Frank O. Funk and Fay (Kindig) Funk Olson. He married Rosamond "Rose" Dahm October 1, 1949 in Pierceton. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2004. He then married Sharon (Huffman) Redman May 9, 2009 in Goshen. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Regina (Jim) Jasiewicz of South Bend and Michelle (Michael) Wantz of Goshen; five step-children, Michael (Rhonda) Marganti, Mark Marganti, Karen Mitchell, Kathi (Tim) Irons and Teresa (Jay) Cirks; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dean (Pat) Funk and two sisters, Norma Delaney and Joanne Duda. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two infant daughters, Pamala Sue and Rebecca Marie and a great-grandson, Willis Wantz. An Indiana State Trooper for 21 years where he achieved the rank of 1st Sergeant of the Ligonier District, Mr. Funk also worked as personnel manager at NIBCO and as a realtor for Century 21, Bill Long Associates. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus; Maple City Kiwanis Club; The Elks, where he went through all of the chairs twice; and Pioneers of the State Police, where he served as treasurer. He also served as a life member of the Goshen Salvation Army Board and served on the Traffic Safety Committee. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 5:30 p.m. Rosary will be recited. A 10 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2012, funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Fathers Anthony Steinacker and Christopher Smith officiating. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Salvation Army.
