John J. Emmert, 87, of Syracuse, died at his home, Friday evening, June 2, 2006. He was born October 7, 1918, in Millersburg, Indiana, to John and Lela Marie (Chiddister) Emmert. On December 31, 1939, in Millersburg he married Eva Rink. She survives. A farmer and lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Emmert, also worked for the Agricultural Loan Department of Farm Bureau Credit Union. He was a member of the Zion Community Church in Millersburg. He was a former Elkhart County Fair Board member. He is survived by his wife, Eva; a son, Dennis (Lynn) Emmert of Syracuse, Indiana; two daughters, Diane (Roger) Symensma of Letts, Iowa, and Bonnie (Elwin) Craft of Syracuse, Indiana; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2006, service will be held at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Harlan Steffen of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
