John W. Cornell, 79, of Goshen, died Monday evening, October 20, 2014, at IU Health Goshen Hospital. He had been ill since Oct. 4. He was born April 8, 1935 in Goshen to John M. and Lucille (McFarland) Cornell. Survivors include three daughters, Cynthia E. (Richard) Hahn of Euistus, Florida, Pamela A. Brandon of Vista, California and Karyn L. (Guy) Sebbo of Placentia, California; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol L. (Michael) Summyof Goshen; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Cornell graduated from Goshen High School in 1953 and served in the US Army from 1954 through 1957. He attended Goshen College for a year and University of Alabama for four years. He worked as an engineer for Rockwell International, retiring in 1990. He also worked for NASA in the Apollo space program for 17 years writing programming for the lunar landing. He travelled to Israel and studied the scriptures in depth. Mr. Cornell moved back to Goshen in 2010. The public is invited to meet at Violett Cemetery on Thursday at 11 a.m. for a graveside service. The Goshen Honor Guard will preside over the service.
