John D. Christner, 69, of Goshen, passed away at his home Monday evening, June 13, 2016, after a long illness.
He was born July 23, 1946 in Goshen to David and Caroline (Borkholder) Christner.
Survivors include two sisters, Edna Miller of Goshen and Freda (Mose) Mishler of Seymour, Missouri; and a brother, Jonas Christner of Kingman, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elmer and a sister, Viola.
Mr. Christner graduated from Bethany Christian High School, Goshen College and earned a master’s degree from Indiana University. He taught at New Paris Elementary School for 39 years. Following retirement he conducted a voluntary reading program at New Paris for those needing extra help.
He was a member of 8th Street Mennonite Church and volunteered at Menno Hof.
Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where an 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2016 funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau will officiate.
Burial will follow in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen.
