John E. Beachy, 92, died Monday, April 18, 2011at Greencroft Gables, Goshen. His health had been declining since February 18, when he was admitted into hospice care. He was born to the late Eli C. and MaryAnn Beachy on August 12, 1918, in Plain City, Ohio. He married Miriam Weaver on August 29, 1942, in Goshen. A missionary, Mr. Beachy served in India for 23 years. He was ordained as a minister in 1951, and was the director of finance at Mennonite Publishing House from 1971-1985. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (David) Paulovich, Phoeniz, AZ, Lynette (Leon) Bauman, Goshen; two sons, John Allen Beachy, DeKalb, IL, Kenton Beachy, London, OH; three sisters, Betty Lyles, Woodstock, GA, Anna Christner, Phoenix, AZ, Lena (Omar) Showalter, Harrisonburg, VA; two brothers, Alvin Beachy, Eli (Katie) Beachy Jr., both of Plain City, OH; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jonas, Neil, and Noah Beachy; and one sister, Florence B. Hostetler. Mr. Beachy was a member of College Mennonite Church, Goshen, and he served on the executive committee of Alleghany Mennonite Conference and South East Mennonite Conference. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 22 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 23 at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. A private family burial will take place in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorials may be made to Mennonite Mission Network for Bihar Mennonite Church, India or Mennonite Central Committee.
