John M. Alwine

June 30, 1932 — July 26, 2008

John M. Alwine, 76, of Bristol, died early Saturday morning, July 26, 2008, at Riverside Village in Elkhart where he had been a patient for the past year. He was born in Goshen on June 30, 1932, to Porter and Minnie (Haney) Alwine.  He married Joy Andrews on November 28, 1980 in Goshen.  She survives. A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Alwine retired in 1994 after 27 years of service from NIBCO where he had worked as a machinist.  He had worked, prior to that, as a manager for the former Philips 66 station in Waterford. Mr. Alwine served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1953 and was a former member of the Goshen Moose.  He attended Bristol Church of the Nazarene, was a very good carpenter and enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Joy; a daughter, Barbara (Paul) Laudick of Elkhart; a son, Steve (Deb) Alwine of Goshen; a step-daughter, Kimberly O’Brien of Elkhart; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William D. (Betty) Alwine of San Antonio, Texas, and Paul (Colleen) Alwine of Union, Michigan. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 28, at the funeral home.  A 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2008, funeral service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Rev. Gary Sheets, former pastor at Bristol Church of the Nazarene and Rev. Scott Miner of the Bristol Church of the Nazarene will officiate. Burial will be in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana, or Elkhart Care at Home Hospice Services.
