Joel James Sonntag

Joel James Sonntag, 42, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Middlebury, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2025, at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen, Indiana, following a battle with cancer.

He was born December 2, 1982.

Joel is survived by his parents, James and Paula Sonntag, of Middlebury; four sisters; Charissa Schmidt (Scott) of Black Creek, Wisconsin, Chara Liang (Peter), Elizabeth, and Evangeleen, all of Middlebury; four nieces, two nephews, cousins, and a dear great-aunt.

Joel enjoyed playing jaw harp with Joyful Noise Music Makers in ministries at nursing homes, festivals and churches. He had also been a volunteer at World Missionary Press in New Paris, Indiana. He found great joy in being an uncle and spending time with family.

The family will hold a celebration of life service at Pine Ridge Bible Church, Goshen, Indiana at a future date. A private burial will be held at Forest Grove Cemetery in Middlebury.
