Joe E. Prough, 87, of Goshen, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Majestic Care, Goshen.
He was born November 4, 1935 in Goshen to Sam and Nellie (Swinehart) Prough.
He married Roanne Hout on September 28, 1963.
She survives along with two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Taft of Goshen, Karla (Michael) Burke of Old Lyme, Connecticut; two sons, Sam Prough of Goshen and Jeff Prough of Syracuse; three grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Ramona Prough of Goshen.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Arlowene Lambert and three brothers, Jay, Charles and Bob Prough.
Mr Prough served with the US Army from 1958-60. He started his work career at hog markets in Topeka and Shipshewana until opening and operating S & W Hog Market in Wakarusa.
He was a member of Millersburg Lutheran Church and the Millersburg American Legion. He trained horses, enjoyed harness racing and was a timekeeper for harness racing for the Elkhart County 4-H Fair for several years.
Visitation will be Monday, December 12, 2022, from 12, noon, until the 1:30 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A military graveside service will follow at Violett Cemetery. Rev. Terry Tyler will officiate.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
