Joe W. Gregory, Sr., 83, of Jones, Michigan and formerly of Goshen, died Sunday, December 13, 2020, at his daughter’s home.
He was born April 6, 1937 in Rocky Branch, Kentucky, to Lewis and Lexie (Foster) Gregory.
On September 29, 1956 he married Velma P. McQuade in New Brunswick, Canada. They moved to Goshen in 1959. She died March 28, 1997.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia (Ray) Rump of Jones, Michigan, and Janet Gregory of Union, Michigan; sons, Joe (Ann) Gregory, Jr., and Craig (Jodi) Gregory, both of Goshen; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bob (Norma) Gregory and Paul (Genna) Miller, both of Bristol and Elmer (Deanne) Miller of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Wilbur, Earl, Arnold and Hershel Gregory, Howard Miller, Opal Decker, Annie Bell, and Bessie Gregory.
He retired in 1998 as production manager from Gleason Corporation. He had also worked at Anderson-Boling and Goshen Stamping.
During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force as a military policeman. He raced stock cars at New Paris Speedway, enjoyed golfing, local freshwater fishing and was an accomplished motorcyclist.
A loyal and enthusiastic supporter of his grandchildren’s activities Joe was a devoted father and grandfather. He also loved visiting family in New Brunswick where in their younger years Joe and Velma were regulars at the weekly dancing events.
Visitation will be to Wednesday, December 16, 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, December 17, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. David Mathews will officiate.
Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen
