Joanna E. Barkman

Joanna E. Barkman, 81, of Goshen died Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 2:40 a.m. at The Laurels of Goshen.

She was born March 6, 1943 in Hopewell, Pennsylvania to Herbert B. and Frances E. (Williams) DuVall.

On October 7, 1967 she married Melvin Barkman in Sherman’s Valley Brethren in Christ Church, Hopewell, Pennsylvania.

He survives along with a daughter, Frances (Chad) Bowers of Elkhart; son, Dallas (Carla Narvaez Barkman) Barkman of Goshen; six grandchildren, Larissa Scarlett Webb, Christian Johnathan Roselle Webb, Parker William Webb, Karina Pimentel-Narvaez, Alysson Elizabeth Barkman, and Brayden Sebastian Barkman Narvaez; great-grandchildren, Angelo Jiovani Pimentel-Narvaez, and Amirya Cataleya Weir; and a brother, Joseph (Karen) DuVall of Everett, Pennsylvania.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert DuVall.

In her younger years, she and her brother did evangelistic work through music in the United States, Canada and Mexico. She was an active member of Pleasant View Church, Goshen.

Mrs. Barkman was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau, Elkhart County Extension Office; served on the Elkhart County 4-H Board; and was also a Goshen Go Getter Leader and director and leader of Elkhart County 4-H Dog Club for many years. Joanna was a member of The Society of Mareen DuVall Descendants and assisted with the Mareen DuVall genealogy publication. She also authored the Barkman genealogy book.

Mrs. Barkman enjoyed supporting her family in many ways. She enjoyed reading the Bible and inspirational books, embroidery, crocheting, quilting, sharing Jesus with others, and coffee with family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 20, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service on Friday, June 21, at Pleasant View Church, 58529 C.R. 23, Goshen. Pastor Mark Snyder will officiate.

Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Followed by a lunch at Pleasant View Church for all attendees.
