Joan Shetler

January 9, 1950 — September 2, 2015

Joan Shetler, 65, of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, September 2, 2015 at IU Health Goshen Hospital following a 17 year battle with cancer. She was born January 9, 1950 in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, the youngest of ten children, to Wiley T. and Mattie Elvira (Williams) Blevins. On June 11, 1983 she married Ellis D. Shetler in Goshen. He survives along with two sons, Steven Chuck Love and Chris (Robin) Shetler, both of Goshen; three grandsons, Cayden, Owen and Evan; a sister, Penny Shetler and a brother L. J. (Valerie) Blevins, both of Rising Fawn, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Tom, Ray and Charles Blevins; and four sisters, Vela Blevins, Jean Bradford, Reba Richcreek and Wylene Watson. She was a 1968 graduate of Dade County High School, Trenton, Ga., and a 1972 graduate of David Lipscomb College, now Lipscomb University, Nashville, Tenn., with a degree in sociology. She enjoyed working with people and sharing their stories. She retired as an assistant manager at the Depot, and prior to this she worked for the Council on Aging. A member of East Goshen Mennonite Church, faith was a central part of her life. One way she shared her faith was in the formation of the Bread of Life Food Pantry which she served passionately. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 at East Goshen Mennonite Church and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 funeral at the church. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Bread of Life Food Pantry c/o East Goshen Mennonite Church.
