Joan Bontrager, 81, of Goshen, died Tuesday afternoon, August 7, 2007, at Goshen General Hospital where she was admitted on Friday. She was born in Gorseinon, South Wales, Great Britain, on December 14, 1926, to George and Elizabeth (Le-Geyt) Tucker. A WWII bride, she met her husband, Harvey C. Bontrager, while he was serving in England. They were married on July 23, 1945, in Gorseinon, South Wales. He survives. A homemaker, Mrs. Bontrager, was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and a former Cub Scout leader. She worked at Chase Bag Factory for five years and was a knitting instructor at the YWCA for many years. Mrs. Bontrager is survived by her husband, Harvey; three sons, Gwyn (Marsha) Bontrager of Shipshewana, Gari ( Vicki) Bontrager of Denver, Colorado, and Gregory (Robyn) Bontrager of Dyersburg, Tennessee; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Florence Hawken of Penllegaer, South Wales, Great Britain. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Lloyd and a brother, Sidney Tucker. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 9, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Terrell will officiate the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Friday, August 10, 2007, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Goshen. There will be no public procession to Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
