Josephine "Jo" Huser Troyer, 86, of Goshen, died early Friday morning, March 22, 2013, in her home surrounded by her family. She had been in declining health since Dec. She was born July 28, 1926 in Berne to Henry and Verena (Schwartz) Huser. She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca (Paul) Christophel, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Verena "Kay" (Larry) Schrock, of Goshen and Mary (Dave) Hoefer, of Goshen; a son, Mark Troyer, of Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and several step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Bobear, of Clifton Park, New York; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Huser, of Austin, Texas and Freeda "Fritz" Huser, of Goshen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her children's father, Rudy Troyer in 1992 and her husband, Robert Hartzler in 1994; four brothers, Sam, Bill, Dale and Merlin "Lee" Huser and a sister, Leah Kalb. A Goshen resident since 1956, Jo was the owner and operator of The Lunch Room from 1959 to 1971 and Plain & Fancy Restaurant from 1969 to 1998, both in Goshen. She was a member of College Mennonite Church where she enjoyed helping in the kitchen. She was a 35 year volunteer with Goshen General Hospital Auxiliary, and a past board member of Amigo Centre, Sturgis, Mich. Her gift with food continued as many were recipients of her signature soups and pies. Friends may call 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 6:30 p.m. memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at College Mennonite Church. Family friend, Rev. Sam Troyer and Pastor Pamela Yoder, College Mennonite Church, will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army, in honor of the first Pancake and Sausage Day, which was hosted in 1963 at The Lunch Room, The Window or MCC for the Mennonite Relief Sale.
