Jerry Chris Johnson, 77, of St. James City, Florida, and formerly of Goshen, died January 10, 2009, at Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, Florida. He was born in Goshen on August 21, 1931 to Harold “Cap” and Mabel (Holtzinger) Johnson. A 1949 graduate of Goshen High School, Mr. Johnson served in the military during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two daughters, Debra (Roger) Snyder of Goshen and Julie (Max) Schut of South Bend; two sons, Jerry Chris (JoAnn) Johnson of Warsaw and Eric (Hilda) Johnson of Goshen; six step-children; four grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold (June) Johnson of Bloomington, Indiana; and a niece, Peggy (John) Woodcock of Bloomington, Indiana. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Violett Cemetery, Goshen, with Father Richard Hire of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, Syracuse, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Hospital or to the Diabetes Foundation.
