Jean Margaret Mabie, 84, died Wednesday evening, December 29, 2010, at home with her family by her side She was born June 30, 1926 in Goshen to the late Daniel C. and Maude (Cripe) Rummel and lived most of her life in Elkhart County. On November 21, 1945 she married Orvan L. Mabie in Syracuse. He died Oct. 10, 1997. Surviving are daughter, Diana L. (Henry) Brubaker, Bristol; sons, Orvan L. (Catherine) Mabie, Jr., Goshen and Allen D. (Sandi Larkin-Hall) Mabie, Niles, Mich.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Bailik, Gulf Port, Fla. And Helen Staples, New Port Richie, Fla; and brother, Bernard (Sharon) Rummel, South Pasadena, Fla. She was preceded by sisters, Gladys L. Rice, Ruby F. Sowers, Opal A. Smith, June L. LeCount, her twin sister, and Hazel M. Snead; brothers, Dean E., Glen L., and Daniel C. Rummel; grandchildren, Rhonda Mabie and Craig Brubaker. A 50 year member of the Zion Extension Homemaker Club, she was President of the County Extension Clubs 1980-81. She was director of Elkhart County 4-H Fair Home and Family Arts Building and a member of Goshen VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a 20 year volunteer at Harvest Basket and American Cancer Society. Jean was an avid card player and a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. Visitation will be 1-3 and 5-7 pm Monday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and the funeral service will follow at 7 pm. Pastor Robert Eby of Calvary Christian Center, Lake Villa, Ill. will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
