Jay D. Yoder, 77, of Goshen passed away Monday, November 30, 2015 at Courtyard Healthcare following a five month illness.
He was born February 28, 1938, the oldest of seven children, to Leonard and Pauline (Phillips) Yoder.
He was raised on a farm southeast of Goshen and graduated in 1956 from Millersburg High School.
In 1963 he married Sondra Dillon in Iowa City, Iowa. She died in 1996.
Jay is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Reames of Elkhart and Dawn Bottorff of Baltimore, Maryland; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; 2 brothers; Ray (Jackie) Yoder of Westfield, Max (Donna) Yoder of Niles, Michigan.; and three sisters; Sue (Nevin) Troyer of Goshen, Lou (Jerry Scholand) Detwiler of Homer, Alaska, and Zoe (Wayne) Stanger of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Pat Yoder.
Jay served in the National Guard from 1960 to 1966 and was called up following the Palm Sunday tornado. He owned Roofer’s Inc. in Middlebury and also delivered RVs for Jayco and worked at Wal-Mart, retiring in 2006.
A longtime Goshen resident, he enjoyed fishing, fox hunting, traveling, building pole barns, showing horses, dancing, playing darts and socializing with friends.
Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.
Friends may call Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 11:30 until 1 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. At that time a procession will leave for a graveside service at Rock Run Cemetery.
