Jason N. Flood

June 18, 1976 — September 9, 2022

Goshen

Jason “Jay” Flood, 46, of Goshen, Indiana, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, September 9, 2022.

Jay was born June 18, 1976 in Drogheda, Ireland. He is survived by Cliona Deegan, his wife, along with his son, Liam Deegan, and his mother Bernadette Barrett and brother Wayne Flood of Drogheda. He is preceded in death by his brother John Paul. Jay also leaves behind close friends in Ireland and America, many of whom considered him family.

Following his childhood in Drogheda, Jay moved to Dublin, where he developed a northsider’s accent that he never lost. In Dublin he worked on movie sets and amassed a collection of personal stories that ranged from the hilarious to the possibly unlawful. In the early 2000s, Jay moved to Chicago where he met Cliona. Their first night out Jay earned free pints at Chief O’Neill’s when he was the only fella in the pub who could fix a blown keg line. His quick work under the draught taps must have impressed Cliona because they were quickly a couple and eventually married on July 4, 2010.

Jay was a plumber by trade. In Texas he ran drainage risers through the high steel structures of the Austin skyline. In Chicago, he fit offices and retail units with bathrooms and breakrooms. He did rough-ins, he did finish work, and he even worked in the assembly of plumbing parts.

Despite spending his last decades away from his home country, Jay was until his last hour a quintessential Irishman. He was quick to lend a hand, he put people at ease with his stories and humor, and he was always up for a bit of mischief. His charm made him more friends than anyone can count.

Following cremation, his remains will be returned to Ireland—he’s on his way home.

Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
