Janice K. Gawthrop, 68, of Goshen, died as the result of a two car accident on Saturday evening, June 3, 2006. She was born April 22, 1938 in Warsaw, to Delford and Dorothy (Herring) Nelson. On June 6, 1959, in Mentone, Indiana, she married James E. Gawthrop. He survives. A 1956 graduate of Mentone High School and a 1960 graduate of Purdue University, Mrs. Gawthrop moved to Goshen in 1963, coming from Etna Green. A member of the Nappanee Missionary Church, she worked 17 years in customer service for NIPSCO before working as a planner and scheduler for Stow Davis of New Paris. Mrs. Gawthrop was a 30+ year member of the 4-H Corporation Board of Directors and had served on the Elkhart County Extension Advisory Board and as a member on the 4-H Fair Board. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Nelson; her husband, James Gawthrop; two daughters, Jama (Kerry) Keaffaber of LaGrange, Indiana and Jennifer (Greg) Meents of Monticello, Indiana; a son, Jon (Brenda) Gawthrop of New Paris, Indiana; and six grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Phil (Jeanne) Nelson of Bourbon, Indiana; and two sisters, Cloanne Snyder of North Manchester, Indiana and Martie Lennane of Warsaw, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her father, Delford Nelson. Friends will be received 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 7 and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 8, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Friends will also be received 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, at the Nappanee Missionary Church on SR 19. A 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 9, 2006, funeral service will be conducted at the Nappanee Missionary Church. Pastor David Engbrecht of the Nappanee Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will be in Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be given to the 4-H Corporation for the Janice K. Gawthrop Memorial Scholarship.
