Janet F. Swihart, 75, of Goshen, passed away at her home early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013, after a short illness. She was born March 23, 1938 in Goshen to Robert Max Farrell and Elizabeth "Betty" (Vandegrift) Farrell Stanz. She married Keith L. Swihart August 9, 1959 in Goshen. He survives along with three sons, Stephen (Linda), Robert "Rob" (Rebecca) and David (Mindi) Swihart, all of Goshen; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Nancy, Nathan, Aimee, Daniel, Sarah and Rachel. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Elizabeth Sue Nilsson. A lifetime Goshen resident, Mrs. Swihart, was a member of the First Church of Christ Science, Goshen and its mother church in Boston. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Maplecrest Country Club, Goshen Public Library Club and the Goshen High School Wall of Fame. She was involved in many community philanthropic organizations and an avid supporter of Goshen High School athletics and academics. A 1956 graduate of Goshen High School, she graduated from both Stephens College, Columbus, Missouri, and Katharine Gibbs College, Boston, Massachusetts. She worked at Richmond Wholesale and Parkside School as a teacher's aide until purchasing, along with her husband, Flair Interiors in 1981, where she served as secretary/treasurer. Friends may call 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Private graveside service and burial will be at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Elkhart County Humane Society or Goshen Community Schools Foundation.
