Janet Showalter, 80, of Goshen, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 9, 2014, at her home. She was born Nov. 3, 1934 in Topeka to Mendall and Irma (Risser) Moseman. On March 6, 1954 she married Dale E. Showalter at the Topeka Mennonite Church. He survives along with their three children, Douglas Showalter of Worthington, Ohio, Donald (Denette) Showalter of Goshen and Jody (Jerry) Downey of Highland Falls, New orkY; six grandchildren, Nicole, Brandt, Troy and Kathlyn Showalter and Jeremiah and Samantha Downey; and a special niece, Peggy Harman. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Julia Hoke. Mrs. Showalter graduated from Topeka High School in 1952 as class salutatorian. She worked at the Goshen courthouse from 1952 to 1955; as a cook at Millersburg and Fairfield schools from 1964 to 1970; at Goshen City Hall from 1970 to 1973; at Carriage Inc. from 1973 to 1980; and as secretary and bookkeeper at Millersburg Elementary School from 1980 to 1997. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Goshen, where she volunteered and served as librarian. An avid reader, she loved to make fudge. Friends may call Friday, November 14, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Saturday, November 15, funeral service will be conducted. Pastors Ed and Brenda Fritz and Pamela Kling will officiate. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made First United Methodist Church Youth, 214 S. 5th Street, Goshen.
