James M. Stiver, 86, of Fort Collins, Colorado, died Tuesday evening, January 15, 2008, at Spring Creek Nursing Home in Fort Collins.  He had been ill for six weeks. He was born in Goshen on August 7, 1921, to Donald F. and Lois (Miller) Stiver.  He married Ruth Richardson Stepp on August 19, 1962 in Decatur, Illinois.  She survives. A Goshen resident from 1921 to 1935 and again from 1958 to 2007, Mr. Stiver worked for Dallas Texas Sales for GE and Penn Control, from 1946 to 1958.  In 1958 he joined the family business Stive Furniture and Undertaking where he worked until 1974. He graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis in 1939, and from Purdue University in 1942 with a BS in mechanical engineering. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Goshen and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity at Purdue.  He served as a captain in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a daughter, Jamie S. (Lance) Reisman of Fort Collins, Colorado; a step-daughter, Robin Vanrooyen of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a step-son, William Stiver of New York, New York; two grandchildren; and a sister, Jeri Rugo of Manchester-by-the-sea, Massachusetts. Burial will be in Goshen at a later date.
