James O. Snodgrass, 89, of Goshen, died at 1:00 pm Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at his home. He was born January 6, 1921 in Latty, Ohio to the late James and Gertrude Emerson Snodgrass. On December 14, 1953 he married Betty Jane Snyder. She died July 8, 2006. Surviving are one daughter, Sherry Snodgrass and two sons, Jeff Snodgrass and Robert Hostetler, all of Goshen. Three grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, and Tanner Hostetler, and one great granddaughter, Anaiya and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents and four sisters. James worked in maintenance all his life and retired from Violett Cemetery. He was a scout leader, and bowled for many years. He was a life member at the V.F.W. Post 985, a WW II veteran, serving in the US Army from 1942-45 in the 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. There will be no visitation or viewing. Jim’s wish was to be cremated. Cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 Tuesday, October 19, at Violett Cemetery. The Rev. Jeremiah Olson will officiate. Jim will also be honored by members of the VFW, DAV and American Legion for his service in the United States Army. Memorials may be made to Care at Home Hospice.
