James "Wendell" Snavely, 80, of Ligonier, died early Wednesday morning, September 2, 2009, at his home. He had been ill the past couple of months. He was born on April 20, 1929, in Clyde, Ohio, to Glenn M. and Lucille (Byerly) Snavely. He married Juva Gall on July 18, 1954 at the Bethany Church of the Brethren. She survives. A resident of the area since 1958, Mr. Snavely retired from Carriage in 1986, where he built furniture. Following his retirement he worked for his sons at Advance MCS Electronics in Goshen and Precision Wire Service in North Webster. He was a member of the Faith Assembly in Warsaw. He enjoyed traveling and singing. He is survived by his wife, Juva; two daughters, Carma L. (Gaylord) Diaz of Nappanee and Doreen K. (Jeremy) Nichols of Ligonier; two sons, Michael W. (Charlene) Snavely of Ligonier and Gregory A. (Nance) Snavely of North Webster; 24 grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; two sisters, Iris Eikenberry of Largo, Florida and Frances (Jim Gilbert of Jeffersonville; and four brothers, Conrad (Bertha) Snavely of North Manchester, Welton (Kathy) Snavely of England, Royal (Freeda) Snavely of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and Errol (Wanda) Snavely of Lewisville. Private family services will be conducted with Pastor Joe Brenneman and son-in-law, Gaylord Diaz officiating. Burial will be in Baintertown Cemetery, Goshen.
