James F. Shrock, 65, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born October 6, 1956, in Goshen, to Howard and Frances (Christner) Shrock.
On October 18, 1980, he married Becky Hershberger in Goshen.
She survives along with two daughters, Betsy Shrock of Bristol and Cathy Jo Shrock of Goshen; two grandson, Liam and Myles and a sister, Pam (Dave) Juday of Elkhart.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by Ryan Foor, the father of his grandsons.
Jim’s long-time association with First Baptist Church, Goshen, began in 1971 when he joined the church. He was the founder and leader of Korner Kids Puppets Ministry and joined the church staff in 2001. But Jim served more than First Baptist Church. He served as a volunteer firefighter for the Elkhart Township Fire Department for 27 years. Since 2006 to present day, he served as chaplain for the Elkhart Township Fire Department, Goshen Fire Department and the Middlebury Fire Department; and as chaplain for the Goshen Police Department since 2012 to present day.
He was a member of Federation of Fire Chaplains and International Conference of Police Chaplains, which awarded him the Wilbert Cunningham Chaplain of the Year.
Prior to joining the church staff, Jim worked for Everett’s Grocery; Good and Plenty Restaurant; Dave’s Painting and as a self-employed painter.
Jim enjoyed wildlife photography.
His body will lie in state Tuesday, March 1, from 2 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1011 S. Indiana Ave. A 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, funeral service will be held at the church with Rev. Dr. Gregg Lanzen officiating.
Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to First Baptist Church.
