James R. Howard

James R. Howard, 85, of Middlebury, died Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Elkhart Hospital.

He was born September 13, 1935, in Elkhart to Herbert and Doris (Rule) Howard.

He married Susan Walter on May 15, 1960. She died November 5, 2019.

Survivors include two sons, Todd Howard of Elkhart and Tom (Karen) Howard of Middlebury; a daughter Terri (Tracy) Berden of Lafayette; and five grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Howard.

Jim owned and operated Howard and Sons Vault Company in Elkhart for 52 years. A veteran and a fireman, Jim was proud to serve with the Eilkhart City Fire Department where he was captain.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 15, 2021, from 12 p.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Tim Yoder will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Elkhart City Fire Station #6.
