James W. "Jimbo" Pumroy, 77, of Goshen, died Friday evening, September 4, 2009, at Elkhart General Hospital. He had been ill since January and in the hospital since Monday. He was born in Kouts, Indiana, on June 13, 1932 to Lawrence and Dorotha (McIntire) Pumroy. He married Lois A. Rodrick on June 15, 1957 in Kouts. She survives. A Goshen resident since 1963, Mr. Pumroy opened a Sherwin Williams Paint store in 1963, then worked as a sales manager for WKAM until 1975. He owned Jimbo's restaurant for 24 years. A 1951 Medaryville High School graduate, he attended Western Michigan University for two years. He served with the US Navy during the Korean War and was a life member of the DAV, American Legion and VFW. He was an avid golfer and former member of Maplecrest Country Club. He enjoyed bowling, stockcar racing, mushroom hunting and camping. He did fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and announced basketball and football games on WKAM with Bill Musser. He is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, Rodney Pumroy of Goshen; a daughter, Lori (Glenn) Shoup of Silverton, Oregon; two grandsons, two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe (Mary Lou) Pumroy of Monticello and Barry (Cheryl) Pumroy of LaPorte; and a sister, Penny Derucki of Rolling Prairie. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Bobby and Gary Pumroy. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 8 at the funeral home. A 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, 2009, memorial service will be conducted at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Chaplain Warren Swartz will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
