James Robert Piekunka, 70, of Goshen, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 11, 1954, in Rochester, New York to Sigmund and Mary Piekunka.
On April 5, 1986, he married Carol Weirich in Goshen, Indiana.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carol, along with his children, Matthew (Meg) Piekunka of Lafayette, Indiana, and Crystal (Josh) Hayes of Orlando, Florida, and two granddaughters, Ellie Piekunka and Anna Piekunka.
He is also survived by five siblings, Vince (Gabe) Piekunka of Bradenton, Florida, Joe Piekunka of Cortland, New York, Tom (Joy) Piekunka of Webster, New York, Grace Patterson and Ann (Wally) Holloway both of Lexington, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Lucas Piekunka.
Jim worked 39 years as a sales executive for GE Betz, a water treatment company. He retired in July 2020.
Jim was best known for repairing and collecting antiques and antique toy trains with his side business, Train Tender Jim. He was an avid train collector and ran his business for 34 years.
He was a member and licensed minister at River of Life Community Church in Elkhart and loved to teach God’s word. He loved God, his family, and being a Papa to his grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, April 26 at Yoder-Culp Funeral home, Goshen, IN. Hours will be 3:00-5:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at River of Life Community Church, 2626 Prairie Street, Elkhart, IN on Saturday, April 27 at 1:30 p.m.
