James "Jimmy" L. Hampton

July 27, 1947 — September 10, 2013

James "Jimmy" L. Hampton, 66, of Milford, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Elkhart Hospice House where he had been admitted earlier in the day. He had been seriously ill since January. He was born July 27, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, to Millard and Letha (Ratliff) Hampton. He married Betty J. McBride in March 1967. She survives along with three sons, David M. (Lisa) Hampton of Goshen, J. Jared Hampton of Kimmel and Jeff Harvey of Goshen; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Deborah Hampton of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Taylor Drew Ray April 9, 2012. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Hampton served as a medic in Germany. He was an avid student of World War II history and enjoyed books and documentaries about the war. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, September 12, 2013, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2012, memorial service will be conducted. Tom Speicher of Wawasee Community Bible Church will officiate. In accordance with Jimmy's wishes his body will be cremated. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Alzheimer's Association.
