James R. Hoogenboom, 87, of Goshen, died early Thursday morning, December 6, 2007, at The Maples at Waterford, Goshen.   He was born June 26, 1920, in Goshen to Dirk and Jenny (Berkman) Hoogenboom.  He married Betty Johnson on May 9, 1942 in Lancaster, South Carolina.  She survives. A 1938 graduate of Goshen High School, where he played football, basketball and ran track, Mr. Hoogenboom served in World War II with the US Army from 1941 to 1945 in the European Theater.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Bravery for the Battle of the Bulge. He graduated in 1950 from the College of Advanced Traffic in Chicago, Illinois.  He retired in 1985 after 30 years at the former Penn Controls, now Johnson Controls, Goshen,  where he was Supervisor of Transportation and Traffic Manager. He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Dr. Donald) Riley of Gathersburg, Maryland; a son, Rev. James L. (Becky) Hoogenboom of Tucson, Arizona; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Nell (Leonard) Hoogenboom of Goshen and Catherine Higgins of Metarie, Louisiana; and two brothers, Richard (Ann) Hoogenboom, of Goshen and Dr. Bernard (Louise) Hoogenboom of St. Peter, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Erin Kathleen Riley in 1972. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 10 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. An 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 11, 2007, funeral service will be held at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church in Goshen.  Rev. Gordon Bacon and Rev. George Nantz will officiate.  Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Brenneman Day Care Ministry.
