James E. Holsopple, 53, of New Paris, died Saturday morning, November 26, 2005, as a result of a tree-felling accident south of New Paris. He was born January 7, 1952, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to Emery and Mary (Miller) Holsopple. He was married on June 5, 1974, at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church Grantsville, Maryland, to Kathleen Yoder. She survives. He had lived in the area since 1969. He was a warehouse manager for almost three years at VBD, New Paris. He had also worked at Menards in Goshen and for 27 years at Goshen rubber as manager of data processing. He attended both the East Goshen Mennonite Church and Community Church of Waterford, Goshen. Mr. Holsopple was a 1969 graduate of Conemaugh (PA) High School and a 1973 graduate of Goshen College. He taught middle school one year at Pierston Middle School. He enjoyed woodworking and being outdoors. He also enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. He worked hard to help those in need and was always pulling for the underdog. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, two sons, Darin (Darcy) Holsopple of Goshen and Eric (Liz) Holsopple of Beech Grove, Indiana, and his parents, Emery and Mary Holsopple of Goshen. He is also survived by two brothers, Dennis (Shirley) Holsopple of Goshen and Jerry (Mary) Holsopple of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, November 29, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one half hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. A 10:00 am funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at the East Goshen Mennonite Church, Goshen. Rev. Steve Slagel, East Goshen Mennonite Church, and Rev. Mike Overpeck and Darin Holsopple of Community Church of Waterford, will officiate. Cremation will follow the services and burial will be at a later date at the New Paris Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Church of Waterford Building Fund or Heifer Project International.
