James L. Buckles, Sr., 89, Of Goshen, died Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Goshen Hospital.
He was born November 30, 1930 in Muncie to Maurice P. and Harriet (Fletcher) Buckles.
On June 25, 1948 he married Ruby J. Fuson in Georgia. She died December 12, 2016.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Ann (Rev. Bill) Burke of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; a son, James (Jayne) Buckles, Jr. of Goshen; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Charlene) Burke, James Burke, Suzanne Burke, Seth (Alyssa) Buckles, Cassandra (Julio) Bardales and Brandon Buckles; and six great-grandchildren, Victoria, Jaxson and Opheliah Burke, Alexander and Audrey Buckles, and Luca Bardales.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Buckles, and three sisters, Pat Jeffers, Wanda Nichols and Dorothy Neill.
A member of New Paris Church of the Nazarene, Mr. Buckles owned and operated Buckles Tool and Engineering, Goshen, manufacturing small engines. He was devoted to his precious wife, Ruby, his family, his country, and most of all his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Mr. Buckles served with the Navy Reserve.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 13, 2020, from 2 p.m. until the 4 p.m. funeral service at the church, 67136 State Road 15, New Paris. Rev. Bill Burke, son-in-law, and Pastor Bryon Smith will officiate.
Entombment will take place at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, Muncie.
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
