James R. “Bob” Kauffman, 81, of Warsaw, died late Friday evening, December 2, 2005, at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen, where he had been a resident for three weeks. He was born September 22, 1924, in Goshen, to Arthur and Hazel (Bowman) Kauffman. On March 24, 1946, he married Faye Valdine Weaver. She preceded him on November 24, 1979. Mr. Kauffman was a longtime Goshen/South Bend resident. He graduated from Central High School in South Bend. He worked at Bendix Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a US Marine Corp WW II Veteran, having participated in the defense of the Midway Island from 1943 to 1945. He is survived by a daughter, Charlene (Dave) Vicsik of Mishawaka; two sons, Kenneth R. (Pamela) Kauffman and Roger E. (Joyce) Kauffman, both of Goshen; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret (Wilbur) Mell of South Bend. He was preceded by his wife Faye in 1979. Friends will be received 5 to 8 pm, Monday, December 5, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Funeral service times are still pending. Burial will be in Rock Run Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House.
